0 CoQ10 And Parkinson’s Disease

Coenzyme q10 supplements may play an important role in the prevention and treatment of Parkinson’s disease symptoms, according to a study published in the Archives of Neurology.

According to the National Institute of Health, Parkinson’s disease affects more than half a million Americans, and more than 60,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with the disease each year. It’s the result of neuron degeneration in a region of the brain which controls movement; this degeneration, in turn, creates a shortage of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine plays a vital role in brain function, influencing behavior and cognition, voluntary movement, motivation, perception of punishment and reward, sleep, mood, attention, working memory, and learning.

This deficit of dopamine causes symptoms associated with Parkinson’s, like slurring of speech, difficulty in controlling movements, rigid limbs, and a lack of facial expressions. As the condition progresses, it can cause cognitive and psychological symptoms like learning and memory problems, depression, sleep disturbances, and in advanced cases, dementia. There are medications available to manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s, but there is no known cure. The majority of people diagnosed with the disease are in their 70?s and 80?s; very rarely, onset is reported in patients under 40 years old.

CoQ10?s Role In the Prevention and Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease

Coenzyme Q10,commonly known as CoQ10, is a vitamin-like substance that occurs naturally in every cell of the human body. It’s essential to the production of energy at the cellular level; the actual “work” that Coenzyme Q10 does takes place in a part of every cell called the mitochondria, and its job is to help transform fats and sugars into energy.

According to the Bastyr Center, researchers became interested in the relationship between CoQ10 and Parkinson’s disease because of reports that the disease is associated with a defect in the production of energy by mitochondria. In addition, reduced concentrations of CoQ10 have been found in the blood of people with Parkinson’s disease. These findings sparked interest in the use of CoQ10 as a potential treatment for the condition.

The published study included 80 participants who were in the early stages of Parkinson`s disease, before medication was required to treat their symptoms. The participants randomly received either a placebo or a daily dose of 300 mg, 600 mg, or 1200 mg of CoQ10 for a total of 16 months. The study participants were monitored using a rating scale used to determine the severity of their condition.

At the end of the study, the participants taking no CoQ10 had worsened by almost 50 percent. However, the results were far more favorable for the group taking CoQ10. The best outcomes were found in those taking 1200 mg per day; their Parkinson’s showed the least progression, only worsening by about 30 percent on average. Additionally, the long-term use of CoQ10 by study participants produced no negative side effects, and in a separate study, was even well tolerated by those who were already taking anti-Parkinson’s medications. These results seem to indicate that CoQ10 is safe and effective for use in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

It’s very important to consult your doctor before taking CoQ10 supplements as a treatment of Parkinson’s disease. CoQ10 is usually taken in doses ranging from 100 mg to 300 mg daily. Be sure to check out some of my other articles on coenzyme q10 benefits.

Breaking Bad!! Ahem, excuse us. We just are a bit excited about this oh-so awesome show. With Season 4 having just ended, Eric and Matt, joined by IGN freelancer (and Breaking Bad reviewer extraordinaire) Seth Amitin, talk a little bit of news (How to Be a Gentleman cancelled, New Girl taking an oddly timed break) and then it's onto a whole bunch of Breaking Bad discussion this time out.

Breaking Bad: Season Finale Review

From our thoughts on the season finale, "Face Off," and the fate of, ahem, a certain character to the ever-escalating scenarios that played out all year, we have plenty to say about Walter White and his ever-tense world.

Hello, those who enjoy the surfing of the chat, Eric and Matt are back, with another busy week of TV news for ya. We've been teased for years with the possibility of a movie, but now it sounds like Arrested Development is actually coming back to TV? Please let this not be some elaborate hoax! Meanwhile, it looked like The Simpsons could be coming to an end due to contract negotiations… but then it didn't. Plus, we discuss Dexter having another star/contract squabble.
We began to see our first cancellations of the new season this week, and we discuss the end of The Playboy Club, Free Agents and H8R… none of which will be particularly missed. However, it was much better news for 2 Broke Girls, Whitney and Up All Night, which got full season orders. But wait, there's more! We've got the possibility of a Reno 911! revival, a new Batman animated series -- Beware The Batman -- for the fans to freak out about, the Coen Bros. developing their first TV series (Harve Karbo), a Snoop Dogg sitcom and the mega-geek team-up of Jon Favreau, Seth Green, Roberto Orci and Michael Dougherty for ABC's Ex-Comm. And, you know… other stuff too!
Not only does the Martin Scorsese-produced HBO Prohibition-era series tout great performances and thoughtful writing, but the entire series is a bit of a history lesson as well. Sure, there are the wonderful moments of gruesome violence set to dance hall jazz, but viewers also get to learn about life back in 1920 -- when VA hospitals made creepy plastic masks for guys who had half their faces blown off and premature babies in incubators were put on display for tourists.

Given the actors, writers, producers and directors involved with this ambitious OG gangster series, there was really no possible way it was going to suck in the slightest. This was always going to be the show to beat this fall.
Steve Buscemi, after decades of great supporting performances, is finally given the dream-role spotlight here. And scenes like the one where Buscemi's Atlantic City Treasurer, Nucky Thompson, tenderly recounts the memory of a childhood beating to Kelly Macdonald's widow Margaret, or the one where Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt) shares some memories of some rather potent war atrocities at a cafe with a low-level thug who cut up a prostitute's face, are prime examples of how this show is almost at its absolute best when it's quiet and just lets the history and the surroundings breathe.
Sure, it's easy to throw your support behind a show about gangsters, female ninja chicks or armies of the undead out for an eternal stroll, but how about two sublimely grizzled and uniquely clever unlicensed private investigators from the Ocean Beach district of San Diego?

From executive producers Ted Griffin (writer of Ocean's 11) and Shawn Ryan (creator of The Shield), FX's Terriers crackles with excellent writing, excellent acting and the most original sleuthing exploits around. When critics enjoy a show, they like to throw around terms like "brilliant," "riveting" or "gem." Mostly, it's all just pander-play, but in Terriers' case it fits to a "T." Terriers is a brilliant, riveting gem.

0 Stokke Xplory Stroller - Learn More About It

The Stokke Xplory stroller originated from Norway in 2003. Its unique design allows it to grow with you and your baby so it can change as your baby's needs change. As a result of this, you can elevate your child for better parent-child interaction while they are still young and let them face the world once they are older. The stroller is so well designed that all its features are simple, versatile, and easy to use so that you don't have to constantly refer to the user manual.

One of the most important parts of any stroller is the seat and as a result, the Stokke Xplory stroller's seat is designed extremely well. It can be attached to the stroller in a number of positions, allowing you to adjust it according to your baby's needs. The seat can be either front or rear facing and the angle of the seat is also adjustable. You can have it upright for active, reclined for resting, or fully reclined for sleeping. In addition, the seat comes with a fully adjustable footrest so that your baby can be comfortable while sitting in the stroller. No longer do you have to worry about dangling legs as there is now somewhere for your child to rest their legs. If your child grows larger, the footrest can be moved downwards to accommodate their longer legs so it will never feel cramped.

The Stokke Xplory stroller's wheels are made of a soft but durable rubber material which prevents any sort of punctures from occurring. Its front non-locking swivel wheels allow you to easily maneuver the stroller around tight spaces without hitting anything. The rear wheels can be easily removed and are large enough to enable you to go into 2-wheel mode when going up and down stairs or navigating rougher terrain like sand or gravel. Unlike other strollers which may have a brake bar to lock the rear wheels, this one has a simple lever next to the rear right wheel that will allow you to lock and unlock both rear wheels at the same time.

When you need to transport the Stokke Xplory stroller around in your car, it's simple to fold up and move. First you have to remove the seat and footrest. Then bring the handlebar all the way down by pulling on the latch at the top. All you need to do now is push in the upper lever and pull on the lower lever located together in the middle of the central bar and stop on the white rectangular bar between the rear wheels. When you do this, the stroller will fold and put the front wheels in between the rear wheels.

0 Checks And Balances

Highly defective daters or HDDs make a lot of mistakes.I want to talk about the final four habits of highly defective daters. Highly defective daters focus on a few features. But they do something that gets them into trouble. They fail to pop the trunk. They fail to look inside the trunk and examine the baggage.

All of us have baggage. Ladies, I know your hottie seems so perfect, so unbelievable but in reality he is Samsonite Sam, loaded down with suitcases. Guys, I know that babe that you have your eye on, that girl that you have been dating, looks like the ulti-mate. She could be but in reality she is Louis Vitton Linda. She is weighted down with a bunch of baggage. And HDDers fail to look in trunks, on luggage racks, or they fail to recognize those U-Haul trailers that a lot of people are pulling loaded with all of this stuff.
Let me say, once again, that we all are loaded down with luggage. You have baggage and so do I. Baggage doesn't really cause problems unless we pretend like we don't have it or unless we are unwilling to process it. That is when it can become a blunder.

There are a couple of bags that we ought to really check out. The first bag is a bag called the family bag. We all have this one. People who do spouse selection God's way will open bags and examine the contents. They will really check out the family situation. Why? Because the family dynamic wields the most power, it has the most influence, on who you are and who I am. That is where our self-esteem was formed. That is where our value system was learned. That is where we understood what marriage was all about, church life was all about. The family formula is major. Make sure you take some time out of your busy dating schedules to open the bag and look through the contents. Discuss your family's high points and low points. Talk about them.

It is also important to deal with the family bag because the family bag is the bag that causes a lot of dings and scratches and dents in our lives. No one here came from his or her original family unscathed. No one here emerged from imperfect parents looking like this Mercedes Benz. We have been banged a little bit, bruised a little bit. Your parents were imperfect.

Ed Young Jr. says that My parents were not perfect. And their parent's parents weren't perfect. And too many times we have Blaming Boomers or Generation Excusers who love to say that they are the way they are because their mother put their diapers on too tight or the nursery was painted the wrong color.

0 Gonna get some of the little news items out of the way as I prepare to leave for LA tomorrow

The New Year celebration is over, but the year-end lists continue and Game Of Thrones seems to be on just about all of them. James Poniewozik of Time has it at the top of his "TV to Look Forward to in 2011" list, HitFix has it on their "20 Anticipated New Shows for 2011" list, Ken Tucker of EW.com has it at the top of his "10 TV events to look forward to in 2011" list and IGN calls Thrones their most anticipated show on their "2011 Midseason TV Preview." UPDATE: We can add Blastr.com, MercuryNew.com (first entry), and Metacritic to the list as well.
All the hype surrounding the show seems to be translating into book sales. A Game of Thrones appeared at #25 on the New York Times bestseller list for mass market paperbacks last week and then climbed a spot to #24 in the most recently published list. I expect it will continue to climb as the show gets closer, and especially when Bantam releases the HBO tie-in edition.
Sibel Kekilli (Shae) added another nomination to her name for the lead role in the German film When We Leave (Die Fremde). Kekilli has won a number of awards for that role and others, while the film leads the nominations lists of the German Film Critics Awards and is this year's German candidate for the foreign language film Academy Award.
Lastly, a site note of interest to our international readers, we just created a page that will track and list all the channels planning to air Game Of Thrones around the world. Check back often for up-to-date air times and stations as we plan to keep it updated.
With HBO's press event for the Television Critics Association Winter 2011 Press Tour only days away, I wanted to give everyone a heads-up on what kind of coverage you can expect from Winter Is Coming. As many of you know, I will be traveling to LA to attend HBO's 3-hour press conference. The conference, which is scheduled to start at 3 PM PST/6 PM EST on Friday, Jan 7th, will include a 30-minute Game Of Thrones panel with George R. R. Martin, David Benioff, DB Weiss, Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke as the scheduled panelists. Of course, HBO execs will be present as well to provide their thoughts on the series.

As to the coverage of the panel, both myself and Fire And Blood will be in attendance. I plan to live-tweet all of the major developments and FaB will be documenting everything from the conference for a full-report to be published later. Want to follow along with the live updates but don't have a Twitter account? No problem. We will be using Cover It Live to stream ALL of my tweets and other relevant tweets and updates as they happen from the event, right here on the site. Hear Me Roar will be monitoring the CiL feed and users are encouraged to join in the discussion there to provide real-time reaction from the fans.

I've been told the panel will include a Q&A period, so hopefully we will get a chance to ask a question or two. If you have any questions for the panelists, post them below and we'll see if we can get answers to some of them. There is a chance we may get some face time with some members of the panel, and if that happens we will have a much better opportunity to get some of our questions answered.

Either way, there should be lots of great info to come out of the event and we will be there LIVE providing you all the latest Thrones news!

UPDATE: Two more Thrones media events have been announced by HBO. First is a 15-minute sneak peek at Game Of Thrones that will happen on Thursday at 9:30 PM PST. The other is two 25-minute roundtable discussions, one with GRRM and one with Benioff & Weiss, that will occur on Friday at 12:45 PM PST. We will be attending both events and will provide full reports, and maybe some live-tweeting, if possible.
