0 Washing cloth diapers is as easy as one two three.

Washing cloth diapers is as easy as one two three. Step one rinse them. Step two wash them. Step three dry them. All you need is safe detergent and a washing machine. Today they are much easier to care for then those of years ago. If you have purchased cloth diapers please read the washing instructions on the label. These instructions will work for almost all of them however it is always best to check the manufacture labels for special care instructions.

Step one rinsing your baby's cloth diapers. This can be done a few ways. Breastfed baby poop does not need rinsed off because it will wash out without any trouble. For the other more solid poops you can shake the it over the toilet and flush. If you still think that your they are too icky to put in your washing machine then you can invest in a sprayer that attaches to your toilet. They cost anywhere from $30 to $50. The attachment looks like a tinny shower head that you can use to spray off them off directly into the toilet and flush the icky poop away. If you have a pail and you choose to throw all your soiled diapers into the pail then you can dump all the dirty ones into your washing machine when you are ready to wash them and put your washer on cold rinse cycle.

Step two washing them. Once your they have been rinsed you are ready to wash them. Use 2 oz of diaper detergent and wash on hot to kill all the bacteria. Do not use Dreft when washing them. Dreft causes build up on the diapers that can interfere with its ability to be leak proof. Other detergents are harsh on your baby's skin so choose your detergent carefully.

Step three dry them. Now that they are clean they need to be dried. The best way to dry them is to hang them in the sunshine to naturally bleach. If you are unable to hang out your diapers you can put them on a drying rack in your house. I use the side of my crib to dry my PUL diaper covers. Cotton inserts can go into the dryer. Check your diapers label to see the drying instructions for your specific diaper. It is recommended by some manufactures to put your PUL diapers in the dryer every so often to help close any leaks that the fabric may be forming.

Washing cloth diapers is really no different than washing any other clothes. Just remember to check your detergent and make sure it is not going to harm your baby or diapers. Happy washing!
